I have been steadily gaining weight since I started staying home. Seems being stressed in an office was a better weight loss tool than I realized. And playing with my son doesn't quite burn enough calories. What do some of you do to lose or maintain your weight? And would anyone be interested in starting a buddy program to maybe help keep each other on track?

It's soooo easy for me to talk to myself out of exercising, and into eating! I will do pretty good for a couple of days, then back to bad habits.
I think about food ALL THE TIME. :-)
I guess I am hoping for a buddy so I am accountable to someone besides me.

I would be happy to help! This is pretty much what I do.
I'm SAHM also. I am writing a book for people who don't have time or money to workout. So mom's are pretty much my target audience.
No I'm not trying to sell you anything. No nothing I ever say or do will eventually lead to charging anyone....except maybe buy my book if it's ever published. HA HA!
You can check out my website www.multitaskyourworkout.com for tips. You can ask questions here or email me if you are more private and I will help anyway I can.
(I love your blog by the way. )

I have to work out in the am right after breakfast so else I won't do it. I also find going to a gym helps a lot. I use a community center type gym so doesn't cost so much...monthly fee but no hundreds of dollars up front to join. I guess not wanting to waste even that small monthly feel makes me feel a certain commitment to be there. Also I socialize a bit there too with other woman and that makes it fun and something I look forward to.
Some mornings though I admit I really don't want to go and have to make myself. I'm tryng to lose 30 lbs so I really need it! I've tried so many diets that haven't worked, the best for me seems to be to count calories and carbs (I'm diabetic) and track them in a software program. I think you just have to be ready and after many years of trying, I think I am now. Good luck to all of you who are trying to lose too!

I am trying to lose weight. This is my third week have been putting my two year old in a stroller and pushing him to the park. It is just a little over a mile. We play for a hour and then back home.
I feel great since i have been doing this , i am also getting out of the house and sometime talking to other moms. I am dreading when we get snow.
I have already lost some weight from doing this.
Good luck to everyone. |

Good for you! Do you have any workout plans sketched out for when the snow comes?

Well on January 1st of this year i weighted in at 245 pounds today i weight 226, It just doesn't happen like it shows on TV like " I lost 30lbs in 30 days" ya right. I got a treadmill and since Jan 1st this year i have walked a total of 330.25 miles. I suffer from depression so i slack up on my walking often. plus i didn't walk most of the summer it was just to hot. Being 61 years old i'm doing the best i can. good luck to all of you who are trying to lose weight. keep that body moving ;o)

The day my daughter was born--18 years ago I weighed 180. Today I weigh 135. After her birth I tried every diet known to man and couldn't lose weight. My mother suggested I eat HALF of whatever I normally ate no matter what that was. Just eat half, she said. So I did. I divided my plate in half whether it was a burger and fries, pizza, whatever. I ate no inbetween meal snacks, drank gallons of water and I exercised every day. The first two weeks were the hardest. I had to really give myself pep talks each day but after two weeks the weight started coming off and it became like a game. As far as exercise, I had to start small--five minutes on the treadmill for two weeks, then I added another 2 or 3 minutes onto that. When I felt comfortable I added some more time. Then one day I was doing 45 minutes and I'm still doing it. I don't understand why all these fitness experts don't suggest taking baby steps to exercise in the beginning instead of insisting you have to do 20 or 30 minutes right off the bat. It's so much better to start small and you stick with it instead of giving up.
My .02 cents

I yo yo up and down 20 pounds--I have been doing this for most of my life. I find when I can get myself back in control, it works to go to Weight Watcher meetings and follow that program. It's the one "diet" where you can eat whatever you want, as long as it's in moderation. I feel deprived with all other weight loss programs and end up eating what I couldn't have...at some other point. I also find staying at home is the hardest when it comes to controling my weight. I can go on vacation, go on a cruise, go to a party, etc., and control what I eat. When I'm at home, it's a the nightmare....especially after 4 p.m. |

I yo-yo a lot, and I definitely agree with your about being home in the afternoons. That's why I like staying at school or going to work as much as possible. I boredom eat so much! And sometimes, avoiding the house does not help much either. I'll get home at 9:30 and eat like crazy for the two hours before I go to sleep. Sigh... =\

I'm always trying to lose weight but I tend to just go up and down within about 7 lbs. not really getting anywhere! Right now I'm trying to eat about 200 calories every 3 hours. I notice I am not as hungry doing this but so far am just maintaining my current weight. Still that is something and maybe I'll start seeing loss soon, I hope! |

Losing weight is one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life next to giving birth. The first two weeks are the hardest. In fact they are downright brutal. It takes fortitude and will power to be successful. And you really, really, really have to want to lose weight. It's kind of like quitting smoking. You have to want to do it more than anything else. Then you can. But it's not easy. It's work but it can be done. You just have to be ready. Having the support of your family and friends is crucial I think. You definitely need a cheering section. Good luck! You can do it!!

I am having a horrible time losing weight both with watching what I eat and excercise. Until I was 50 I was always under 120 pounds then I was dianosed with breast cancer, I survived the breast cancer but put on 60 pounds. I've pretty much gotten discouraged and would love to know some tips if anyone has any.

Well, I can tell you you're not alone. I'm over 50, and I find taking off the 20 pounds I gained this year almost impossible. I guess with age I feel more sluggish, and/or it's disappointing to see my face looking "older," so I don't try as hard to keep my body in shape. I'm not proud of this, but it's honestly the way I feel. In your case, rewcath, it sounds like you always had contol of your weight (until recently), so you can do it again!!!!! Do you remember how you used to control your weight before you had breast cancer? Do you remember how you kept yourself in check? Maybe try to draw on those old thoughts and let them re-surface. While I'm saying this, I'll try to do the same for myself. We can both do it!!! I think.... |

I don't know if anyone has heard of EFT (tapping for anything). I use it and I have almost cut out drinking sodas. I was drinking maybe 12 Mt. Dews a day( 9 spoons of sugar in one drink). I could not go anywhere without my soda. I started tapping and I am down to 2 sodas a day and am not really wanting those. SO I believe it works. If you want more information you can either contact me or go to youtube and type in EFT in the search box and it will bring up all the things on tapping. Hope this helps someone. Thanks

mommytwo you are so right! After 50, seems impossible to lose any weight or even maintain so as not to add more lbs. Going to check out 'tapping' - what have I got to lose!! Maybe a few of those unwelcome pounds! |

I think I've been trying to loose weight my whole life! I got health issues that prevent me from vigorious exercise, then to top it I have celiac. But I keep eating stuff I'm not supposed... well, like communion bread last night, which causes inflammation in my case.
I need motivation to put on that sports bra and go for a walk. If I can do that I know everything else will fall in place and lead to healthy eating. It's a balance.
I encourage you all ladies to do the same, no matter what your excuses are. I got plenty, but I need to be here for my family, and I want to be here to live a healthy lifestyle.
Happy Holidays,
Cristina
