You already knew that taking care of a dog is a lot of work, but did you know it helps to keep you physically fit?
A new British study posted in the Associated Press this week says that people who walk their dogs get more exercise than those with gym memberships. Regular dog walkers clock in about eight hours of exercise per week, whereas those who attend gyms only get an average of an hour and twenty minutes in the same time period.
Getting to a gym takes such time, effort, and money, whereas the little walks here and there with your pup quickly add up - there's no contest. Getting the dog out of the house is also fun for the both of you; the study found that 86% of dog owners looked forward to the walk. Only a meager 16% of gym rats get excited for their workouts.
It just goes to show that getting enough exercise doesn't have to be hard work, so the next time you feel guilty for not hitting that expensive gym more often, just remember all the little activities in the day that can keep you healthy and fit.

This is so true. Most people consider the gym to be the only place where you can exercise. I may not be on the same level as those who work out everyday, but I know that opting for the stairs instead of the elevator and walking longer distances instead of taking shortcuts adds up little by little in my favor.

I really enjoy walking my dog because I don't think of it has a work out or a hassle. The gym is also an intimidating place, I feel like a nice walk with or without your dog just makes for a better environment.
