Eating out used to be a special treat. These days though it is a daily custom. It’s convenient, I’ll give you that, but it’s definitely not cheap or healthy. However there is something you can do to save money and avoid the extra calories. Here are 4 restaurant secrets everyone should know about to start doing both:
1) Don’t supersize – Sure you’re getting more bang for your buck, but it comes at a cost. On average you are given 73 percent more calories for only 17 percent more money. Your waistline won’t appreciate that “bargain.”
2) The waiter is a salesperson – There’s a reason he asks if you would like anything else, and it’s not to be polite and considerate. He wants you to spend more money.
3) Eat smart – Many people tend to ignore their diets when they dine out. If it’s for a special occasion or only happens once in a while, then that’s fine. But if you order out more than once a week, exercise some control. Make healthy food choices and treat yourself here and there.
4) Go for the smaller option – You’re allowed to order seconds, really! In order to do so though, you should probably start small. For example, opt for two kids’ scoops of ice cream instead of two double scoops.
Following the above suggestions will help you save money, that’s a given. More importantly though it will be easier to stay slim without having to eat out less or give up the foods you love.
