Operation Record a Story Helps Families Stay Close across the Miles for Christmas

Through the years there have been so many families that have been seperated by thousands of miles because mom or dad are serving in the military. Through Operation Record a Story, Publications international Ltd. (PIL) is providing thousands of books to United Through Reading. This nonprofit organization will make it possible for service members to record the books and send them back to their kids in time for the holidays.

This holiday season, military parents about to deploy will have the chance to arrange for shared story time with their children even after they leave for their tours of duty, through United Through Reading’s Military Program. Operation Record a Story, a program sponsored by Publications Internaitonal, Ltd. (PIL), has not only donated boks but many of the boks are from its award-winning Record a Story (TM) collection, to the nonprofit United Through Reading. The books, along with a DVD of the parents recording the story, will then be shipped to the kids for the holidays.

Recording will take place at the following United Reading locations:

* Onboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), Homeport – Everett , WA (in San Diego by mid-October)

* 1st Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, SC, located near Columbia, SC.

Since 1990, United Through Reading has been sending kids videos of their military parents reading books aloud for them. The program encourages parents or caretakers at home to then photograph or take a video of the child enjoying a book and DVD they recieve, and send photos or videos to the service member.

Operation Record a Story enhances the United Through Reading experience by adding a recordable storybook to the mix. Record a Story allows readers to easily record their voice narrating a story, so kids can then hear their parents or relatives read to them as they turn the pages. This year, Operation Record a Story book titles include:

* Dora the Explorer: Exploring Memories

* Sesame Street: Together at Heart

* Thomas: Good Night, Little Engine

* The Day You Were Born
